I am a self taught artist who did not really try to paint until I was in my thirties. One of my first paintings I took to a little local arts outlet in a Wellington district and was surprised when it sold the next day. It was that thrill of someone liking something I had created that made me want to paint more. |
I started with oils, which I enjoyed, but later changed to acrylics, mainly because of the limited time I had and the finer work I could do with it.
Over the years I have mainly done commission work enjoying a stint with the Council of Westport doing paintings of old buildings for their records before they either fell or had to be pulled down.
Sometime in the early nineties I entered and won ‘artist of the day’ at the Auckland Easter show.
I enjoy all forms of art but for personal reasons over the last ten years since returning to Whangarei I have done very little. Now I have the time to do what I enjoy the most.
