Sally’s work consists of figurative portraits painted in oil and watercolour. Using a mixture of personal family and found vintage photographs, she creates scenes which seem to inhabit both the past and the present, exploring youth, childhood, memory and nostalgia. |
Some of the paintings reflect a sense of humour, with play, discovery, wonderment and mystery. Others are elegant and emotional and tinged with melancholy.
Sally uses warm, dramatic lighting and careful composition to make the viewer feel drawn into the scene, to create a sense of intimacy and familiarity.
Sally works from a studio at her home. She holds a bachelor degree from Elam School of Fine Arts. She creates work for galleries, and she also makes many commissioned portraits.
