Riverside Painters

Picture
Picture

Riverside Painters began as an untutored art group in 2014.

Prior to that, many of our group had been together under the tutelage of Aroha Paora.

When Aroha retired, we decided to stay together and support each other, to enable our creativity through painting to grow.

We chose the name “Riverside Painters” because that is where we meet,
every Thursday morning, at the Reyburn Studio, by the Hatea River, in
Whangarei.  We paint, mainly in oils, some in acrylics and other media.

Whatever medium is chosen, as individuals, we willingly share our
knowledge and ideas to develop our technical skills and artistic knowledge.

Our first group exhibition was “Collaborations in Colour,” in January 2015
which was such a positive experience, that by December 2015 we had
sufficient new works to enable a second exhibition entitled “What we Love”.

The second exhibition demonstrated our collective focus in mainly painting the New Zealand environment, flora and fauna and the occasional human.

Between preparing for exhibitions, when required, a workshop tutor  has been brought into the Studio, to revise technical skills or focus on a particular topic.

In the main the artists work independently, each painter choosing his or her own subject matter and medium and what they want portray in their art.

The inclusive nature of our group ensures each new member feels welcome as they bring their own expertise and experience, which is then able to be shared in a friendly, fun environment.
