In 2014 my wife and I moved from city life and the corporate world to our own piece of paradise in Parua Bay. We were living the dream. Then 2015 arrived and I was struck down with a serious illness which put me on my butt so to speak for the best part of 2 years. I have always loved making things so decided to use my rehabilitation time to learn some new skills and get creative.
Inspired by a love of all things rustic I started making some new furnishings for our (already rustic) home. I then discovered Shou Sugi Ban wood charring (see link below to find out more) and although not as easy as I thought to learn, to me this was seriously fun and complemented the wood craft I was doing. |
After a year or so of experimentation, refining my technique and with continuous prompting by friends and family I decided to take the next step and start producing work for others to hopefully enjoy. The birth of Barnwood Creations!
All my work is bespoke, and comes from either my own ideas, variations to other themes or ideas from clients, friends and family.
I use reclaimed materials where at all possible as this not only reduces my environmental footprint but also, I believe, enhances the rustic look of my work.
If you like the Shou Sugi Ban finish but would like a custom build incorporating your own ideas I am happy to work with you. What you see so far is only the start of my creative journey. Just send me a picture, drawing and/or specifications and I’ll get to work on a price and lead-time estimate for you.
