Adrienne took an interest in painting when she retired from teaching in 1984. She then realised that , because she was still busy with a family of 4 growing children and a husband, she would not be able to spend too much time away from the house, she started to use some of her better photographs as subjects for her paintings rather than spending time painting in the outdoors.
After moving to Hervey Bay, Queensland from Victoria, she took a 17- week night school course in Photography, hoping that it would help her take better photographs for her painting material. Her paintings had improved as had her love of photography. However, she knew she would never be able to call herself a professional photographer as she would NEVER be able to understand and work with the concepts of the camera's technology. |
That did not daunt her, however, and, upon coming to live in New Zealand in 2004, She entered several camera competitions and , although she did not achieve any First Prizes at the Auckland Shows, she won a number of 2nd and 3rd awards that year and also the following year for various subjects.
Her Photograhic hobby was now almost as important as Painting. She joined the Whangarei Camera Club in 2013-4 hoping that she would overcome her fear of the technical aspects of the camera....but it was not to be. She did a course in "Light-Room" and also in "Photoshop", but again, it was all gobbledy -gook to her.
Her saving grace was her confidence in creating decent photographs because of her sound knowledge of COLOUR , TONE and ARTISTIC COMPOSITION and DESIGN.
She joined the Shutter Room when it first started and had a successful Exhibition the following year entitled "Mystique" - mounting photographs on Aluminium Plate.
The most recent exhibition in 2018 was entitled "RUST".
