Alan Squires: photography

The first thing I noticed living on top of a mountain was the path of the sun.
Living in cities you never really appreciate how it varies during the course of a year.
I love the maritime setting of Whangarei, with an ever changing, bustling harbour, and a wild coastline with sublime beaches.
I’ve spent a day on a beach in the middle of summer and not seen a soul, and I like that.
You can go bush, there are great tracks and trails, I’ve seen Kaka rollicking through the tree lines of Te Whara (Bream Head) and the view from the top is awesome.
At night you hear the resident kiwi’s distinctive calls while Marsden Point glistens like a small city across the harbour.
For the 2020 arts trail I’ll have many new works of large scale framed prints, and for sale (at last!) my hardback landscape photography book “Whangarei” a celebration of our region and in particular, it’s glorious coast.
