I began painting in the early 1980’s and as a raw beginner, “couldn’t draw a straight line”. I started by using oil paints, then graduated to watercolours, later working with pastels and now…….anything goes!
In 1989 I spent a year doing a full time course entitled, “Certificate of Painting” at T.A.F.E Hervey Bay, Australia.
The influence of the French Impressionists and the Australian Heidelberg School of Artists played an important part in my early works.
In recent years, the works of the Expressionists, their strong use of colour and line, has given my work a new vibrancy and strength. Woodblock printmaking is a newly acquired skill and Margaret Preston, an Australian printmaker of the 1930’s, has given me the inspiration to persevere with this artform.
Having spent many years as a primary school teacher, and , understanding the needs of people wishing to learn a new skill without any prior knowledge, I love passing on my knowledge of painting to others.
